"Hoot" Judkins commitment to Sustainability and our Environment

"Hoot" Judkins has always been deeply committed to the sustainability of our world's forests and to the overall environment.  Some of our accomplishments include:

  • Replaced 1,208 32watt Fluorescent lightbulbs with low-voltage 13watt LED bulbs. Old bulbs were recycled.
  • A foam densifying system allowing us recycle 98% of the Styrofoam we receive and reduced the total volume we send to the landfill by 65%.
  • 97% of the cardboard we receive is recycled in partnership with our local waste company.
  • An ongoing commitment to have as much of the products we order shipped with blanket wrapped carriers, eliminating the need of cardboard and foam.
  • An ongoing commitment to educate our customers about how our various products impact the environment through our GREEN SCORE system.
  • An ongoing commitment to sourcing American made solid wood furniture as much as possible.
  • An ongoing commitment to participating in the California Bye-Bye Mattress campaign.  We recycle 100% of our customer's used mattresses.
  • An ongoing commitment to maintaining our fleet of delivery vehicles in order to minimize the carbon footprint of our delivery operations.
  • Goals for the future:
    • Increase the number of reclaimed wood products from 1% to 3% by the end of 2022.
    • Increase the number of domestically sourced items from 67% to 70% by the end of 2022

"Hoot" Judkins' Responsible Wood Sourcing Policy

"Hoot" Judkins is committed to the responsible use of forest resources, including the wood used in our furniture. "Hoot" Judkins therefore will work with our suppliers on an ongoing basis to eliminate wood from unacceptable sources and to progressively increase the amount of responsible wood – wood from certified and recycled/reclaimed sources – procured over time.
"Hoot" Judkins recognizes the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as an important tool to promote responsible forest management. We have a preference for sourcing FSC-certified wood furniture when it meets our requirements.
"Hoot" Judkins is also firmly committed to avoiding wood from unacceptable sources, including:

  • Illegally harvested or traded timber;
  • Timber harvested in violation of traditional or civil rights;
  • Timber harvested from areas in which high conservation values are threatened by poor forest management
  • Timber harvested from areas being converted from forests to plantations or non-forest use
  • Timber from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted

Through this Policy, "Hoot" Judkins seeks to set a positive example for our peers and to do our part to protect the world’s forests.
