Our Quality: Borkholder Furniture produces original, American-made designs for today’s modern lifestyles. This is furniture built to stand the test of time, thanks to talented craftspeople who regard their products both as works of art, and as furnishings to be used and enjoyed for generations.Committed to preserving a sense of community and careful stewardship of the woodlands, we build sustainable, environmentally friendly products with great care and attention to detail. Great attention is paid to the natural characteristics of the local hardwoods in the furniture-making process.
Our Process: Every piece of wood is hand-selected to match a specific design, often using the natural grain of the wood as a decorative element. Following an extensive drying process, the wood surface is prepared, made smooth and level using hand-held planes. Each piece is then hand-sanded to size prior to assembly and finishing of the design. As part of our environmental commitment, we utilize only eco-friendly finish formulas that are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). While our furniture-making process incorporates sophisticated equipment, each piece is still produced by hand, one-at-a-time, using age-old techniques. Stain is painstakingly wiped again and again to ensure the natural beauty of the wood shines through. When satisfied with the finish color and quality, a sealer is applied, again ensuring that every side of the piece is well protected. The sealer is then sanded in a multi-step process requiring the type of careful handwork and extensive knowledge of woodworking that only highly skilled artisans can provide. We take pride in every piece of wood that crosses our path and it shows! Plain Sawn, Rift Sawn, and Quarter Sawn sections of wood showing its importance in the process Finally, the piece is ready for its topcoat, a catalyzed lacquer varnish that ensures a long-lasting finish that will protect this investment-quality furniture day-to-day for years to come. Decorative hardware, often custom designed for the piece is added, and drawers are fit to the cases, as are leaves to the tables, with careful attention paid to ease-of-use and smooth opening and closure. Inspected at every step of the production process, the finished piece is again extensively checked and cross-checked, and finally judged ready to be deemed Borkholder Certified. This exclusive stamp, signified by a special brass label, ensures that every piece meets Borkholder’s stringent quality standards, and marks it as an original, American-made, Borkholder design. To ensure the furniture arrives in pristine condition, we have built a state-of-the-art custom carton and packaging facility. Unique in the furniture industry, it’s an innovation made possible through the synergies afforded by our parent company, Kountry Wood Products, a leading producer of kitchen cabinetry. Once properly packed, cartons are secured with high-strength bands, labeled and staged for transit in small loads.
